This was a wonderful opportunity to speak with the Mayor of Taft Elsie Cesar. She came to share some history from the Oklahoma Blacktowns in particular, Taft, Oklahoma which was formed in 1905, by free black men and women. These men and women were spear-heading the migration by black indigenous people to the west. Oklahoma was Chickasaw land and many tribes were accompanied by black natives, slaves allowing them the unique opportunity to forge their paths on the Western frontier. Mayor Cesar was raised in that empowering environment. I hope you enjoyed our conversation as much as I did.

The Town of Taft is raising funds for its 1st annual Gospel Festival on February 17, 2024. This event will include local talents and feature some great artists with a specific focus on bringing HBCU Langston University Gospel Choir to be the featured performer for the event.
